Digital Vehicle Ownership Transfer

The digital transfer of a car or motorcycle in Greece is now a reality!

Through the official digital platform of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, you can now complete the process without any physical presence at a public service office.

What does digital vehicle transfer mean?

Digital vehicle transfer is the electronic process of changing ownership of a private-use car or motorcycle through the platform Transfer of a vehicle for private use (IX) - Gov.gr.

Instead of visiting the Directorate of Transport or a Citizens’ Service Centre (KEP - CSC), both sellers and buyers complete the transaction online, using their personal Taxisnet credentials, from a computer or mobile device.

Before starting the transfer

To carry out a digital vehicle transfer, the following conditions must be met:

  • The vehicle must be owned by one natural person only (no co-owners).

  • The vehicle must be in circulation.

  • There must be no outstanding road tax debts.

  • The vehicle must have a valid KTEO inspection or be exempt (under 4 years old).

  • There must be no other pending transfer application for the same vehicle.

Both sellers and buyers must also:

These requirements are necessary for secure identification and two-factor authentication (OTP via SMS).

Step-by-step digital transfer process

The electronic transfer consists of five main steps:

1. Seller login to the platform

Log in to the Private Vehicle (IX) Transfer platform using your Taxisnet credentials.
Authentication is completed in two stages (OTP via SMS).

2. Vehicle selection & data entry by the seller

Select the vehicle you wish to transfer.
Enter the buyer’s Tax Identification Number (AFM - TIN) and the Region responsible for processing the transfer.

3. Acceptance by the buyer

The buyer receives an SMS and email notification.
They log in using Taxisnet credentials and accept the transaction.

4. Issuance of digital transfer certificate

After submission, a digital transfer certificate is issued to the citizen’s digital inbox via gov.gr.
This certificate allows the vehicle to be insured and legally driven for 30 days, until the new registration license is issued.

5. Collection of the new vehicle registration license

The buyer visits the Directorate of Transport of the selected Region and submits:

  • The signed old vehicle registration license (Green Book)

  • Proof of payment for transfer and license fees

Note: Sellers are not required to be present in person.

Fees & Payment

During the digital application:

  • An RF/QR payment code is generated.

  • Payment is completed via web or mobile banking.

If the Region does not support electronic payment, an IBAN is provided for bank transfer.

For accurate fee calculation, you may use the official vehicle transfer fee calculator.
